CatTerrific Rescue
For the Love of Kitties
Our Mission:
To provide support care for kittens and cats owned and cared for in the Cane Beds/ Colorado City, Arizona, Hildale Utah, and Centennial Park, AZ collectively called Uzona.
We also trap feral cats, get them spayed/neutered and vaxed and return to their area.
Our Purpose:
We exist to help those with cats that need support at their location, owners or carers. We organize for spay/neuter, vaccinations, trap or pick up and then return them to the same location. This is called TNR: Trap Neuter Return. CatTerrific cares for between 20 and 30 felines onsite at any given time all while providing resources to community colonies. We are a small rescue and therefore cannot take on any more cats. But we can guide you to resources that may help. We can offer resources to you on your site or in your home when we receive food, medicine and other supplies as donations.
We currently are the ONLY organization that is doing this in our area.
We do it because we love cats, and we need your help!
Help make a difference and sign up to volunteer today!
We need help with projects such as building an outdoor cattery for the winter and heated kitty condos, drivers to take and pick up from the vet in Hurricane UT and the spay/neuter clinic at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab UT and St. George Humane Society, drivers that can pick up donations or even solicit donations and be our representative at rehoming and donation drives. We occasionally need cat-sitters. We also need social media volunteers. We REALLY REALLY need those who will foster. The list goes on...

Why your Donations are so NECESSARY
We are currently self-funded, and so all of the costs of looking after our rescues come out of our limited pockets. To give you an idea of the expenses, in addition to food - they get wet food in the morning, and there is always dry food available throughout the day there are Vet bills that include an office fee of $60 plus whatever meds and procedures are prescribed.
We are able to arrange for spay or neuter for free since we are recognized as caring for a cat community, thank you Best Friends! They get their first vaccinations free but the booster shots for rabies do cost. Also the cost of transportation with the gas prices these days can be difficult. Also too time to get them back and forth keeps us away from our other money getting endeavors.
For instance a common ailment is an eye infection, seen in many kittens especially and the antibiotic cream (terramycin) for this is not cheap at $25 for a tiny tube. It's a 30 mile round trip for us to Tractor Supply in Hurricance UT to buy this. But when the fur babies need it, they need it. We can't let them suffer a moment longer than necessary.
We buy a good mid-quality dry cat food from Costco at $25 for a 25lb bag and canned food that we feed every morning. We go through 25 lbs of dry food per week currently, the cost is about $200 per month and prices are going up all the time. Again this expense has been from our own pocket until now. You get the picture.
For this winter, we are hoping to build a warmed kitty house, the materials for which are likely to come in between $800-1000. We need volunteers to build, so we are hoping to raise enough for the materials in the next month or so before it gets bitterly cold.
Their Stories
Read on for touching stories and videos of past rescues. The cost of feeding each one averages out at around $15 per month, on top of which can be added vet visits, treatment and medicines. To make a direct impact, visit our donation page to help us cover costs.
Sheila's tail
At about 8 weeks old, Sheila was found in a storm drain, just after a heavy downpour. Soaking wet, cold, filthy, she couldn't use her back legs, and the vet diagnosed either nerve damage, or malnutrition.
The Ballad of Mad Max
When Joanne Nunes and her husband Conrad decided to settle on a plot on Cane Beds Road in 1998, there already were a couple of cats claiming squatter rights. They named one 'Max', because who else would be mad enough to live out there with coyotes, and without water or shelter...
Little Lady
This wee mite, around 6 weeks old and just skin and bones - was found in Cottonwood Park in Colorado City. She had an eye infection that kept her eyes closed, and she was scared and hungry. She was rescued by one of our crew, Jodi.
Pumpkin
Found wandering in Hildale, just the other day. Once again, hungry, scared and alone. He was about 8 weeks old, and we've no clue as to where his Mom and siblings are. But he's a feisty little kitten, and is settling down well. We adopted him
Coming Soon
We are working on adding all 32+ cats in our care to our website, if you have a knack for media or writing...we would love your assistance! Consider filling out a volunteer form to learn how you can help us accomplish this sooner!
The Full Story of CatTerrific
We are a newly formed Cat Rescue in 2022. We have been providing care for wayward felines for years and we now ask for your help so that we can do more and carry on. We live in the high desert of northern Arizona near the border with Utah. It's up on the Colorado Plateau at 5,000 ft. It gets very cold in the winter and quite hot in the summer. We plan on building a cattery that will provide warmth and shelter in the winter months.
I personally have adopted cats my entire life. My husband was late coming to love cats but as are most converts he's worse than me now! He is a great Cat Daddy! More about us and our team in the 'Meet Us' tab. (under construction)
We offer assistance for abandoned and stray cats and kittens. The need is great. We offer help to people who take them in.
We find that more people would take in strays if they had a little help. We are so grateful to those that will take a needy kitten or cat off the street, you have big hearts and you can't just look away! But, you need some assistance. That's why we are here!
We go out of our way to get as many of them off the streets as we can and into homes safely, humanely and lovingly.
We have taken in and care for many cats and kittens ourselves, but we've reached our limit. Currently we can not accept any drop-offs, but we will help you rehome.
We are in need of volunteers and supplies to build a cattery and a fence to separate us from the rest of the property (my brother is annoyed with the cat's [poop] and I don't blame him)
With your assistance we can help many more. Every little bit helps.
Donations of money, materials (building supplies, lumber, bedding/straw, pet heating pads, storage bins to make kitty condos) food, volunteers (carpenters, drivers, veterinary services, manning rescue drives, helpers to build kitty condos, etc.) are greatly appreciated.
We are grateful for your interest. Thank you
